Sources you can check

A useful directory should explain where a fact came from, what it establishes and what remains unknown.

How this collection was built

We reviewed 16 destinations using published visitor information. A separate acquisition of DOGAMI’s 690 geothermal inventory records helped identify historical names and locations. Fifteen destination records were matched to that inventory; Mickey uses BLM’s recreation coordinates without a forced one-to-one geological match.

Geothermal records are not a list of public bathing sites. We did not turn every vent, well or historical measurement into a recommended destination. Hart Mountain’s visitor spring was matched to the Antelope Hot Springs cluster, rather than a different record named Hart Mountain several miles away.

Freshness and limitations

The current review date is October 12, 2026. We do not run a live closure, weather or water-quality feed. Seasonal descriptions do not establish today’s opening status. For Umpqua, a blocked Forest Service fetch meant using Travel Oregon for visitor facts; current fees remain unverified. Bagby’s USFS page reported a wildfire closure during review. Belknap and Kah-Nee-Ta have dated or conflicting notices that are preserved in their guides.

Historical source-water temperatures are not displayed as bathing temperatures. Missing data is labelled unverified. Check official sources again before travel, especially after severe weather or wildfire activity.

DOGAMI data credit

Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries, Geothermal Information Layer for Oregon (GTILO), hot-springs inventory. Underlying references include G. L. Black’s 1994 low-temperature geothermal database and later compilation work. Individual record IDs and record links are included on profiles.

Dataset and metadata · DOGAMI publication reuse information. Historical measurements are not a current recreational-access assessment.

Maps

Interactive base maps use OpenStreetMap data and attribution. They load only after you press the map button. Destination pins come from the separately credited records above. Browser location sorting is approximate and measures a straight line, not a route.
